20. Watertoren Leiden

De watertoren is ontworpen door architect W.C. van Manen en werd opgeleverd in 1908. De toren is 29,5 meter hoog en heeft één waterreservoir met een inhoud van 1200 m3. Mede door bemiddeling van de Stichting Industrieel Erfgoed Leiden kreeg de toren de status van rijksmonument. De toren is de eerste watertoren met een skelet van gewapend beton. Hij is opgebouwd uit twaalf grote betonnen palen (het skelet) waartussen de muren gemaakt werden. In 1993 werd de watertoren buiten gebruik genomen. In 2007 diende architect Ben Schildwacht uit Zoeterwoude een plan in bij de gemeente van Leiden om de toren om te bouwen tot een luxueus woonappartement met werkruimte. Tegenwoordig wordt de watertoren gebruikt als woning.
