2. Alpen a/d Rijn schutsluis

Van de Oude schutsluis die hier vroeger heeft gelegen, is niets meer over. Wat nu nog in gebruik is als noodkering, zijn de grote, langs de oever zichtbare, sluisdeuren die bij calamiteiten kunnen worden gesloten. Een zogenaamde BWO-kering. BWO betekent Bescherming Waterstaatswerken in Oorlogstijd. Pal tegen de Hefbrug die hoog boven het water uitkomt, zijn deze sluisdeuren beschikbaar om bij een eventuele calamiteit de Gouwe af te sluiten van de rest van de Rijnlandse Boezem.
