Sailing through the Alkmaar-Kolhorn Canal - one of the three completed canals of the 1922 Westfriese Kanalenplan, which was never completed in its entirety due to the explosive development of road freight transport - you will pass Langedijk, where the kingdom of a thousand islands lies hidden on the other side of the dike. A visit to this area is definitely worthwhile. The Stadshart of Heerhugowaard is nearby. Near the village of Rustenburg, you sail through the 100-year-old lock operated by volunteers; a unique experience.
