6. Gemaal Halfweg

Aan SZ ligt een zwaaikom, dat is een plaatselijke verbreding het water, zodat schepen er kunnen keren. In de zwaaikom vind je het museum-stoomgemaal Halfweg. Dit is het oudste en grootste nog werkende schepradstoomgemaal ter wereld. Het werd gebouwd in 1852 om overtollig water uit de Haarlemmermeer via Zijkanaal C en het Noordzeekanaal naar zee te pompen. Het gemaal had uiteindelijk een vermogen van 1500 m3 per minuut en deed dienst tot 1977.
