15. Meerwijkplas

Aan SZ bevindt zich de Meerwijkplas. Dit is een geïsoleerde plas van ongeveer 35 hectare met een zeer flexibel peil. Aanvulling van water gebeurt zoveel mogelijk alleen door regenwater. Om dit goed te organiseren werkt Rijnland samen met de gemeente Haarlem. De oevers worden onderhouden door een enthousiaste groep vrijwilligers uit het aangrenzende Schalkwijk. Door het gezamenlijke werk en goede afspraken ontstaat hier prachtige natuur. Vrijwilligers bouwden hier ook de grootste insectenwand van Nederland, helemaal opgetrokken uit verwijderde struiken, takken, wortels en grond. Mocht je rond de plas willen wandelen: bij naastgelegen restaurant De Molenplas kun je even afstappen en rondom de plas vind je verschillende uitkijkpunten.
