13. Stelsel van compartimentswerken

Op dit punt, net als in Zwanenburg bevindt zich weer een bwo kering (Bescherming Waterstaatswerken in Oorlogstijd) uit ca. 1888. De kering dient om in geval van een volgende oorlog het achterland te beschermen. Als een bombardement zou zorgen voor een dijkdoorbraak, kon men waterschade in de lagergelegen delen beperken door de Ringvaart af te sluiten. In de praktijk zijn deze keringen niet gebruikt. Tegenwoordig heeft het waterschap nog steeds een stelsel van compartimenteringswerken. Bij calamiteiten dienen ze om waterschade of grote vervuilingen te voorkomen.
