12. AWZI Schalkwijk

Nu zien we aan SZ de afvalwaterzuivering (awzi) Schalkwijk. Dit is een van de vele installaties waar Rijnland het gebruikte water uit toilet, keuken, douche en het afvalwater van bedrijven, weer schoon maakt voordat het weer in de boezem wordt geloosd. Door biologische processen in de vrije natuur gaat de reiniging van het water in het oppervlaktewater verder. Rijnland moderniseert de installaties naar de nieuwste normen. Hierdoor neemt capaciteit en effectiviteit van de installaties toe. Het water in de boezem wordt daardoor steeds schoner. Natuur en watersporters profiteren hier beiden van.
